Hi, this is Carey, a.k.a "The Telescope Guy".

I started The Telescope Guy “street performer” show June 26th of 2009 and by June 25th, 2013, I performed 678 nights, giving approximately 43,723 views through the telescope.

Who Carey Is

I served 20 years in the Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician. I was stationed at NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii from 1987 – 1994, with AIMD, and VP-1 where I did deployments to Adak, Alaska; Misawa, Japan; and Diego Garcia, BIOT. My last command was the USS Nimitz where I served two six month tours in the Persian Gulf.

I retired from the Navy Dec. 1, 2006 and moved back to Hawaii where I spent one year working to establish residency, and started college January of 2008.

I completed my AA December of 2010, and started working toward a BEd in Science for Secondary Education in January of 2011.

Two of my dream jobs were to be a high school science teacher or a planetarium director. I’m happy to have found my way to O’ahu, where the evening stars shine brightly. I can’t wait to show you around!

The Custom Island Tours Story

On January 1, 2012 I started Hawaiian Night Sky Tours giving astronomy tours from a dark location such as O’ahu’s north shore.

In August 2012, I added a tour called Custom Island Tours, giving private tours of O’ahu.

In January 1, 2015 I changed the company name to Custom Island Tours, LLC.

In 2015, we gave 539 tours to 2,613 people, including 502 circle island tours, 12 astronomy tours, two City Lights tours, and 23 other.

In 2016, we gave 658 tours to 3,346 people, including 629 circle island tours, 14 astronomy tours, three City Lights tours, and 12 other.
